Wednesday and Thursday will bring the 'best of the weather this week' according to Met Éireann who have put the country on alert that conditions will go 'downhill' again this weekend.
As Europe boils, Ireland's July has been the direct opposite with above average rain and below average temperatures.
Met Éireann expects sunshine and just a few light showers though to Thursday but it's back to the wind and rain in the days after.
"Things go downhill again from Thursday night with the approach of another spell of wet and windy weather for the weekend," said the forecaster.
The outlook is for showers and longer spells of rain at times with spot flooding resulting at the weekend. The forecaster says with the wettest conditions forecast are expected on Friday night and Saturday. More than twice the average is expected in the east and parts of Munster and Connacht, while in other areas rainfall amounts will be closer to normal.
