Sarsfields GAA pitch in Cork completely submerged under Storm Babet flooding

Incessant heavy Storm Babet rain that has caused bad flooding in Cork is not finished dumping water on Ireland with Dublin the next in line for the deluge that will make for dangerous driving and cause flooding for Laois bound commuters.

Met Éireann has issued Status Orange and Yellow weather alerts with Dublin and Wicklow placed under a Status Orange alert for rain through Friday and part of Saturday.

The Met Éireann warning has said the spells of heavy rain during the Orange alert period will lead to flooding, dangerous driving conditions and poor visibility.

The alert is valid from 11:13 am on Friday to 8 am on Saturday. It was issued on Friday morning.

In its forecast, Met Éireann says there been more rain but also some sunny spells through the weekend. Further pulses of heavy rain are expected on Monday with another low system on the way next week. MORE BELOW TWEET.

National Forecast Issued at 12.57pm on October 20.

Friday: Showers this afternoon in Kerry and Cork. Rain over Ulster and Leinster will spread southwestwards over Connacht and Munster, heavy at times with localised flooding. This evening, drier weather will follow into Ulster. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees with moderate to fresh east to northeast winds, strong on east and north coasts and strong northwesterly on southwest coasts.

Tonight rain will continue to move southwards and will clear from most areas. However, there will be further spells of rain in east Leinster with flooding in places. Lowest temperatures overnight of 4 to 8 degrees with a moderate to fresh north to northeasterly breeze.

Saturday: A day of bright spells and some scattered showers or patchy rain in parts. However a lot of dry weather for many. Maximum temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in a moderate north to northwesterly breeze decreasing light.

Sunday: It looks set to be dry for many on Sunday with plenty of autumnal sunshine and just the odd passing shower. However, during the late afternoon and evening some showery rain is expected to spread into the west and south which could turn heavy or thundery in places. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate, variable or southeasterly winds.

Showers or longer spells of rain, heavy or possibly thundery in parts, will affect Munster, and parts of Connacht and Leinster, on Sunday night with the chance of localised flooding in places. It will hold drier elsewhere with some scattered showers. Winds will be light with some mist and fog.

Monday: Further pulses of heavy, possibly thundery, rain are expected to feed up over Ireland on Monday, with some localised flooding possible, as a weather front stalls over the country. Some bright dry periods either side of the front. Highs of 10 to 13 degrees.

Drier on Monday night as the rain clears to the east, though it may still affect some coastal parts of the east coast into Tuesday. Otherwise Tuesday looks largely dry and bright, aside from some showers in the west. Highest temperatures 11 to 13 degrees in a light northwesterly breeze veering westerly.
Cold on Tuesday night with some mist and fog forming for a time. Lows of 3 to 6 degrees.

Outlook: Another low pressure area is expected off the west coast mid-week bringing further wet and potentially windy weather. Following this blustery conditions for a time with sunshine and showers. Slightly milder with highs of 13 to 15 degrees.
