'Much drier' - relief from saturating rain  Met Éireann weather forecast

High pressure will dominate our weather from the south bringing a week of mixed weather with showers and some spells of bright or clear weather in between rather cloudy skies this week, according to the Met Éireann which says it will be a drier week.

Met Éireann isn't forecasting any storms for the final days of autumn. Any substantial rain is likely for the early part of the week with unsettled weather forecast for the end of the week.

Its farming section says rain amounts have been above average in most areas over the past week with much of the country recorded 1.5 to 2.5 times their normal amounts. For the week ahead the forecaster says, that overall, it will be a "much drier" than average week with just 20% of average amounts expected in the East.

Met Éireann says mean air temperatures were around, or slightly above, average over the majority of the country over the past week. They reached a high of  Mean air temperatures will range from 8 to 11 degrees

After Monday, drier weather is expected thereafter but winds will generally be light or moderate and there will be plenty of cloud which means there will generally be little to no noticeable drying of saturated ground.

Cloud will build in from the west from Monday with sunshine amounts across the 7 day period will likely to round up around average or a little below. MORE BELOW.

Monday: A breezy day with a mix of bright or sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will become increasingly isolated through the day as better sunny spells develop. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees but feeling cooler than that in the fresh and gusty northwest winds, which will be strong at times near coasts.

Mostly dry with some lingering showers mainly affecting the northwest, with otherwise some long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in light to moderate northwest winds.

Tuesday: Mostly dry on Tuesday apart from isolated showers in west and northwest coasts. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees generally in light west to southwest winds.

Cold and mostly dry apart from the odd shower near western coasts. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees, feeling mildest in the northwest where temperatures won't fall below 8 to 11 degrees, in light southwesterly winds.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with some patchy rain or drizzle at times, most likely in parts of the north and west near coasts with a fair amount of dry weather further south. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in light to moderate west to southwest winds.

Showers will continue to feed in from the west through the night. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees, coldest in parts of the south. Light to moderate westerly winds.

Thursday: Further showers on Thursday, becoming increasingly more isolated through the day. Mostly dry in the eastern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in light westerly winds.

Further outlook: Current indications suggest its set to become more unsettled with wet weather in store for the weekend as rain and showers are expected.
