Gale force winds in Storm Gerrit forecast

Storm Gerrit has caused Met Eireann to issue weather warnings with wind and rain set to disrupt Christmas festivities.

Storm Orange and Yellow alerts have been declared for Gerrit by Met Eireann after its forecasting partner in the UK, the Met Office, named the storm.

The forecaster said it would be dry across most areas on St Stephen's Day in light breezes wth sunshine turning hazier.

Storm Gerrit's wet and windy weather will slowly extend to remaining areas during the evening and early in the night.

Some flooding is likely in strong to gale force southeast winds.

Wednesday will be windy with early rain clearing to bright spells and widespread squally showers.
