Met Eireann forecast change in the weather for Ireland with rain set to return this week

Met Éireann is forecasting a change in the weather for Ireland this week with rain set to return bringing cooler temperatures in the coming days.

After a drier than average week heading into the Bank Holiday, Met Éireann says rainfall totals are forecast to be above normal in parts of the west and north and below normal across much of the east and south predicted.

The cooler forecast is based on an expectation that air temperatures will trend below average over the coming week by around 1 to 3 degrees. Overall, sunshine amounts look likely to be in and around average over the coming week.

The latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland says Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and damp or wet to begin with outbreaks of rain and drizzle clearing southeastwards through the morning and early afternoon.

Highest temperatures will reach 17 degrees, and feeling a good bit cooler as the winds veer northwest and increase moderate to fresh and gusty with the clearance of the rain.

Dry and clear for much of the country Tuesday night, it will be cloudier in northern and western parts with scattered showers. Lowest temperatures 5 to 7 degrees in easing west to northwest winds.

It will be a much cooler day on Wednesday with sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent in the north. Highest temperatures 11 to 15 degrees in moderate westerly winds, fresher near western and northern coasts.

Wednesday night will be mainly dry with clear spells and isolated showers on north and west coasts. Lowest temperatures 5 to 7 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

Met Éireann says there will be sunny spells and showers on Thursday, most frequent in the north and west. Highest temperatures 12 to 15 degrees in mostly moderate westerly winds.

Met Éireann is forecasting showers or more persistent rain in the north on Friday with the best of any dry or sunny weather in the south. Highest temperatures 15 to 18 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds.

The forecaster says that current indications suggest little change for next weekend with temperatures continuing around normal for the time of year and with some sunshine at times with mainly westerly winds.
