A snow and ice warning has been issued for Laois by Met Éireann as temperatures plummeted in the county overnight.

The status yellow warning for snow and ice will come into effect from 9pm on Wednesday and will remain in place until 12pm on Thursday. It is in addition to the low temperature warnings that were earlier issued.

Met Eireann warned that snowfall accumulations are expected with hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility, travel disruption and animal welfare issues.

Meanwhile a status orange snow warning for counties Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford has also been issued where significant snowfall is expected from midnight to midday on Thursday.
