Storm Darragh has wreaked havoc across Laois and all of Ireland with over 12,300 Laois customers without power, and fallen trees hitting roads.

So many Laois households, businesses and farms are without electricity this Saturday, December 7, that it is hampering the speed that the ESB staff can fix fallen lines.

ESB Networks has given the same estimated recovery time of 5pm this Saturday evening due to the volume of works, until they can give more precise updates.

Outages in Ireland at 10am on Saturday, December 7 due to Storm Darragh, on the ESB Networks Powercheck website.

An Orange Wind warning remains in place in Laois until 10am but people are advised that danger will remain afterwards.

Laois County Council had stated before the storm that "gusts of up to 120km/h, from a north westerly direction, were forecasted. Storm Darragh will bring heavy rain and very strong gusty north westerly winds making driving conditions dangerous.

"The public are advised to travel only if it is necessary during the period of the Orange warning.  Motorists should slow down and allow extra time for journeys.  Please be aware of the danger of fallen trees, powerlines and debris on the road network both during and after the storm event."
