Met Éireann have predicted an abundance of snow, sleet and frost for Laois this week, with temperatures to drop to -7°C on Wednesday.
A forecaster for Met Éireann confirmed with the Leinster Express / Laois Live that road conditions in Laois will be treacherous this week, with conditions to improve from Friday onwards.
"The general picture is it is going to stay very cold, dropping below freezing by night and struggling to get above freezing during the day," a spokesperson said.
"Monday will see temperatures struggling to get above 2 to 3 degrees. Monday will see a good bit of sunshine, with some showers of rain, sleet and snow moving in from the northwest. This will affect Laois later in the afternoon and through the evening," they said.
"The snow is not expected to be as heavy as it was over the weekend, but it will add to the accumulations across Laois already, which will make for more treacherous conditions.
⚠️There are currently Status Yellow Countrywide warnings for Low Temperature/Ice/Snow-Ice.

"Monday night will see temperatures drop down to at least -1°C or -2°C, leading to further ice, so Tuesday is expected to be quite treacherous with frost and icy conditions, it will be quite hard to melt," they said.
"Tuesday to Thursday will be bright and generally dry, but bitterly cold. There is a level yellow ice warning until midnight on Friday night, because these low temperatures will persist.
"Tuesday will see a high of 2°C during the day, and is expected to drop to -7°C during the night. While Wednesday and Thursday will hang around 0°C or 1°C at most during the day, the nights will see lows of -5°C to -7°C," they explained.
"Anything that will freeze will get quite cold," they said.
These conditions are expected to persist throughout the week, leading to treacherous road conditions throughout Laois.
Weather on Friday is expected to turn gradually milder.
"There will be a gradual increase in temperatures throughout the day on Friday, where it might get up to 4°C or 5°C," Met Éireann said.
"Friday night may drop to -2°C or -3°C, but it will not be the same hard frost that we have seen. Over the weekend, it wont be warm by any means, but it wont be as cold as this week will be. It may rise to 5°C or 7°C degrees over the weekend," the forecaster finished.
Laois schools have yet to announce their intentions to remain open or closed for the rest of this week.
Met Éireann have implemented a yellow level weather warning for ice and snow until 12pm on Tuesday.
