Will the rain stop? Met Éireann Electric Picnic Saturday and Sunday weather forecast

Laois wet and windy start in Stradbally at Electric Picnic

There mightn't be much sitting on the grass in Stradbally on Saturday with rain in the forecast.

The weather Gods smiled on Stradballly for day one of the Electric Picnic, but, like quite a few Picnicers they seem to have woken up on Saturday worse for wear.

So what are the Met Éireann meteorologists forecasting for the Saturday and Sunday weather conditions in the Laois venue.

Well, they say the morning will be wet as rain moves northeast across the country. This rain will be heavy at times and may cause localised flooding. Thankfully, it won't last.

"A clearance to sunny spells and showers will gradually extend from the southwest through the afternoon," he said.

But don't expect summery conditions as it will be breezy with a moderate to fresh and gusty southeast to southwest wind. Highest temperatures will reach between 16 and 21 degrees.

Overnight, it'll be breezy with scattered showers. Fortunately for the Electric Picnic these will be most frequent across the western half of the country. Temperatures will fall to between 10 and 13 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds.

More wind for Sunday with showers, also with Met Éireann warning that some will heavy and merge into longer spells of rain at times.

It'll feel cooler with the highest temperatures peaking at 18 degrees in fresh and gusty southerly winds. The winds will ease during the evening.

The showers will continue to feed in from the west on Sunday night, merging into longer spells of rain at times in the northwest and west, turning heavy in places. MORE BELOW PHOTO

Stradbally could escape the worst of it overnight as Met Éireann says there will be clear spells and scattered showers elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with moderate to fresh west to southwest winds, strong along Atlantic coasts.

Monday is the leaving day for many picnicers. The forecaster expects sunny spells and widespread showers on Monday.

Once again, the showers will turn heavy and possibly thundery at times before easing in the evening and becoming mostly confined to the west. Highest temperatures will be between 14 and 18 degrees with moderate to fresh westerly winds, easing light to moderate through the evening.
