Storm Bram named by Met Éireann

Ireland looks set to be pounded by powerful Storm Bram, which has been officially named by Met Éireann.

The forecaster officially gave the weather system storm status just after 10 am on Sunday, November 10, when it also extended the Status Orange area to all counties along the western coast.

The worst of the weather is due to hit on Tuesday, which Met Éireann says will be very wet to begin with strong to gale force southerly winds, veering westerly later with some damaging gusts.

The forecaster warns that thundery rain will be widespread at first with some flooding. Scattered showers will follow for the afternoon, some heavy and thundery across the west and northwest counties. It will be mild with the highest temperatures of 13 to 15   

The Met Éireann warnings are as follows:

Status Orange - Wind warning for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Wexford

Storm Bram will bring very strong to gale force southely winds with the strongest winds along the coast.

Impacts:

  • Flooding of low-lying coastal areas, especially during high tide
  • Wave overtopping
  • Difficult travel conditions
  • Debris, loose objects displaced
  • Outdoor events impacted
