Storm Bram: More Laois homes lose power with trees falling on roads

Laois County Council staff and fire crews clearing fallen trees on roads.

More Laois homes and businesses have lost electrical power, with trees tumbling as Storm Bram continues to impact the county.

Laois County Council gave an update on Tuesday, December 9 at 4pm.

"Laois County Council and Laois County Fire & Rescue Service have been attending to and clearing fallen trees throughout the day as they come to our attention.

"Please exercise caution on the road network today as #StormBram weather warnings are in place," they say.

Meanwhile over 1,000 Laois homes and businesses are among 22,000 premises who lost electrical power as trees and obstacles knock out overhead power lines.

Laois County Council and Laois County Fire & Rescue crews working in the storm to clear roads of fallen trees.

In Portarlington, 30 customers are affected and may not have power restored until 10pm tonight.

In Mountmellick, 58 customers are without power, again with a 10pm restoration time, according to ESB Networks Powercheck.

Just inside the Laois border in Ballycowan near Athy, there are 521 customers with no electricity, again with a 10pm reconnection time.

Another 11 customers have no power in the Timahoe/Portlaoise rural area. Power is estimated to return at 5pm.

On the Laois border to Kilkenny, 20 customers in Castlecomer are affected, until 5pm.

Abbeyleix has 91 customers hit, with power estimated to be restored at 10pm. ESB electricians have already restored ppower to 326 customers in the Abbeyleix area.
