As many parts of Laois have endured extensive flooding this week following Storm Chandra, Laois County Council has now warned that more floods could be expected over the next 24 hours.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, and Waterford which is valid until midnight on Friday. Louth will also fall under the rain warning from Friday.
The warning has yet to impact Laois, although high levels of rainfall is expected through Thursday night and into Friday.
Laois County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team have issued a warning to people in Laois with regard to the cumulative rainfall in recent weeks, the forecasted rainfall for the next 24 to 36 hours, and the saturated ground and river conditions throughout the county.
Laois County Council advised: "There is an ongoing risk of localised flooding across the road network in County Laois. Drivers are urged to drive in accordance with prevailing conditions and to not ignore road closure signage, where such signage is in place."
Towns such as Portarlington, which faced severe flooding on Tuesday due to Storm Chandra, have been warned of further flooding in the coming hours.
The council cautioned: "Property owners in other areas vulnerable to flooding, including areas of Portarlington and Mountmellick, can monitor river levels on waterlevel.ie.
"In Portarlington and Mountmellick, the risk of flooding increases as water levels exceed the Median Annual Maxima Level. The Graph Reference Numbers, on waterlevels.ie, are 14005 (Portarlington) and 14121 (Mountmellick) (see graphs below)."

Laois County Council crews, including Municipal District Area Staff, Fire and Emergency Services and Civil Defence Volunteers will be on standby with sand-bags and pumps at the ready to assist in areas affected by flooding.

Laois County Council said they will issue a further update on the situation on Friday.
