River levels in Laois have not risen as much as expected considering this week's heavy rainfall, however Laois County Council have advised that they will continue to monitor the situation.
Towns and villages in Laois, such as Portarlington, experienced significant flooding this week following Storm Chandra on Tuesday, January 27.
As it stands, seven counties remain under a Status Yellow rain warning this Friday, January 30. These counties include Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, and Waterford.
Although Laois has escaped the warning from Met Éireann, Laois County Council remains vigilant to any potential flooding over the next day as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
In an update from Laois County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team, the team stated: "River levels in County Laois have not risen as much as anticipated overnight. More rain is forecast for the next 24 hours.
"Laois County Council will continue to monitor river gauges overnight. Our crews, including Municipal District Area Staff, Fire and Emergency Services and Civil Defence Volunteers will remain on standby over the weekend, to assist should any issues arise."
