Laois County Council has issued an update ahead of cold snap.
Laois County Council has advised of possible travel disruption and deteriorating conditions ahead of a status yellow warning for low temperatures and ice.
The yellow weather warning from Met Eireann for Laois and the entire country will be in place from 9pm on Friday, February 13 to 10am on Saturday, February 14. The forecaster has warned temperatures are expected to fall between - 1 and - 3 with sharp frost and icy conditions. They also warned of hazardous travel conditions on road and underfoot.
Providing an update on weather conditions for a chilly St Valentine's Day the forecaster said: "Cold, dry and bright to begin tomorrow, Saturday, with frost and icy patches clearing. Cloud will thicken as the day goes on, with rain spreading from the west in the afternoon and evening, turning heavy at times. Some sleet or wet snow is possible for a time, mostly about high ground."
A spokesperson for Laois County Council said: "Our winter maintenance teams are working throughout the season to keep roads in Laois safe during cold and icy conditions. "Gritting operations are ongoing - never assume a road is treated. Always drive with extra caution in icy conditions.
