Barrow river flood among Storm Austen driving dangers - Laois County Council

Floods, falling trees, flying trampolines amongst Storm Austen risks outlined to Laois drivers
Laois people are being warned of potential dangers during Storm Austen.
Householders are being advised to secure any loose objects in the garden, which could well include Halloween decorations, before the storm arrives.
A Met Éireann Status Yellow Rain and Wind Warning for Laois is valid from 7pm this Thursday, October 22 until 10am on Friday morning, as the first storm of the winter lands.
Laois County Council’s roads team has issued a statement advising the public what to do before, during and after the storm.
“Storm Austen is expected to bring high levels of rainfall overnight on Thursday into Friday morning.
“There is the potential for flooding with small, mountainous, upland, and urban catchments at greatest risk, as they will respond quickly to the higher-intensity rainfall.
“Rivers (including the Barrow) are likely to experience river level increases that may lead to out-of-bank flooding from Thursday into Saturday,” they say.
They warn of potential impacts making driving conditions difficult.
“Localised flooding possible - road users should not attempt to drive through flooded roads.
“Debris, loose objects displaced - please secure any loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines and temporary structures before Thursday evening.
“Trees remain in full leaf at this time of year, making them more vulnerable to strong winds - motorists should be alert for fallen trees, debris and difficult driving conditions, particularly during Thursday night and Friday's morning commute.
“If you need to drive during the next few days, allow extra time for essential travel,” the roads staff advise.
