Irish Hospice Foundation calls for Laois walkers to take part in Camino Challenge

Modern-day pilgrims sought to take on a Camino challenge

Irish Hospice Foundation calls for Laois walkers to take part in Camino Challenge

The Camino will take place from 27th September to 4th October  with five Walking Days covering 124km in total.

The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF), is looking for modern-day pilgrims to take on a Camino challenge with a difference this September. Those who take part will be walking the second stage of the historic French Way, from Estella to Burgos in Northern Spain. This lesser-known route remains true to the region and crosses the beautiful “La Rioja province” before finishing at the stunning Burgos Cathedral.

The Camino will take place from 27th September to 4th October  with five Walking Days covering 124km in total.

Flights, accommodation, and meals are all included in the package, so walkers can focus on walking with friends and IHF’s experienced guides.

Paula O’Reilly, CEO of IHF said: “I thank everyone that has joined us on our Camino walks over the past six years and I encourage any keen walker to be a part of our wonderful week. I will be getting my boots ready and look forward to sharing a memorable time with everyone.”

Helen McVeigh, Director of Fundraising at IHF, said: “We are excited to launch our sixth Camino walk, which for the first time, is taking on such an historic stage; following in the footsteps of walkers over the centuries. This is your chance to make every step matter for families facing their final times together and for those coming to terms with the loss of a loved one.

While each walker takes on a personal challenge, they will also be supporting people nationwide who are facing death, dying or bereavement. The Irish Hospice Foundation relies on fundraising events like this to continue its important work.”
