Mountmellick Macra celebrates 50 years of talent this weekend

By Express Reporter @leinsterexpress.ie @laoisnews

For one night only this Saturday, Mountmellick Macra presents a variety show ‘50 years of Talent’ to round off the club’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Over the past 50 years, Mountmellick Macra has seen a wealth of talent taking to the stage in drama productions, annual pantomimes, tops of the towns, Macra Capers shows and a whirlwind of National Macra competitions.

Throughout its years, the club scooped many titles in those competitions, this year alone reaching second place at Macra's national talent disco dancing, and solo instrumental competitions.

“2016 marked the 50th Anniversary of our club and the committee decided that we would celebrate this wonderful history of talent, hence the notion of a celebratory variety show was born,” said PRO Amanda Lowry.

A wide range of entertainment is on the billing, including solo singing, trad music and dance, dramatic pieces, disco dances, novelty acts and comedy pieces that have been prized and cherished throughout the years.

Proceeds of the Variety Show will be split between Mountmellick Youth Development Club and club funds.

The show is ideal for a fun family evening out, starting at 8.15pm sharp.

“It is guaranteed to be a great night's entertainment with new and old faces on stage,” said Amanda.

Tickets are priced at €10 and are available from MDA reception or O’Gorman’s Newsagents.

The event is ticket only due to limited seating in the Macra Hall. Tickets may also be booked by ringing Rosemary on 087 2726525.
