Portlaoise Pantomime Group will present their 33rd Annual Production when “Aladdin” takes to the stage in the the Dunamaise Arts Centre from January 21 to January 28.
This year's production Aladdin will feature the usual little twists and turns here and there, with a visit or two to some eerie and scary places, foreign parts and even with some animal encounters, some strange characters and also some happy places, with a few surprises along the way.
Director, Paul Norton is on his first visit to Portlaoise Panto while Musical Director, Niall Mulpeter makes a welcome return after a few years.
Choreographer Paula Byrne is on hand for her third year with the group and, with a cast of over 50 (including a junior chorus of fourteen and sixteen Transition Year students from local secondary schools), rehearsals are now in full swing for what promises to be a spectacular start to the New Year for all panto lovers.
The productioin features a superb chorus, with senior and junior dancers all playing their parts of villagers, towns people, various animals and many more, all contributing in no small way to the continuity of the actions and antics of all the main characters.
The cast of characters will feature as follows: Aladdin - Patrick Raimi, Princess Jasmine - Ciara Finlay, Sultan Pepper - Noel Tuohy, Lady Googoo - Lynda Byrne , Hokay - Rory Chadwick, Kokay - Charlene Ireland Duff, Widow Twankey - Damian Halpin, Hoozee - Christy Bannon, Abanazar - Joan White, Michelle - Ciara Dollard and Obamarama - Sophie Corder.
Aladdin runs from Saturday, January 21st to Saturday, January 28th, with matinees on Saturday 21st, Sunday 22nd, and Saturday 28th, at 2.30pm (sharp) and nightly at 8pm.
