Let the magic of Christmas begin at Dunamaise Arts Centre with an incredible and packed line up of events to warm the hearts and bring the festive spirit to the people of Laois.
The magical events will include Ballet Ireland’s wonderful performance of The Nutcracker; music by Jack L, Hermitage Green, The Fureys and Kevin Morrin plus lots for families including Frozen, Frosty the Snowman and Portlaoise Panto Group’s Aladdin as well as the beautiful Christmas film 'It’s a Wonderful Life.'
Ballet Ireland will start the Christmas festivities off at Dunamaise with two performances of The Nutcracker on Monday and Tuesday, December 5th and 6th.
Already sold out, these will be two spectacular shows featuring an international cast of world-class dancers with glittering costumes and Tchaikovsky’s beloved and sumptuous score. Elsa (from Frozen Princess Parties) will also be at Dunamaise before each show with lots of treats on offer for glittering ballerinas.
For those disappointed not to get Ballet tickets, there are lots more events to look forward to at Dunamaise.
Talisman Theatre will present Frosty the Snowman for schools and families on Friday 9th, Friday 16th and Saturday 17th December. Frosty the Snowman, a jolly, happy soul with an old magician's hat that brings him to life on stage is sure to put a smile on your face and melt your heart.! A show full of laughter, fun and audience participation, ideal for ages 3+ . (Schools bookings direct to Olga on 087-6363075). Tickets are priced €13.50/€12.50/Group and Familly Rate €10.
Jack L, returns for another knock-out show with an all new, self-penned album The King of Soho (and other stories) on Friday 9th December.
Jack promises to deliver a spectacular event, introducing his audience to great new characters and intriguing creations from his vivid imagination - and none more vivid than himself!
Tickets are priced €25 but book early as availability is limited!
Elsa, Anna and Olaf will invite families to sing-a-long for a real Christmas treat in special screenings of Frozen on Saturday 10th December. With one screening already sold out at 12pm and a second screening added at 3pm, this will be a wonderful event for families to enjoy. Elsa herself may also be at Dunamaise in person to greet all her fans!
ABBA FOREVER presents The Christmas Show and is a real excuse for a party this Christmas on Sunday 11th December! Expect a dazzling, fantastic performance by the finest ABBA voices at the best party in town! You’ll be rockin’ in the isles! Tickets are priced €20.
Students of Scoil Chríost Rí take to the stage from Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th December for their presentation of Beauty and the Beast.
Directed by Karen Hackett, there’s no doubt that the Transition Year class of 2016/17 will bring you a fantastic musical production once again! Tickets are priced €12/€10/€4(group rate for matinees only).
Following his sell out show at Dunamaise earlier this year, Kevin Morrin returns due to high public demand on Saturday 17th December. Kevin started singing traditional ballad songs because of his deep love of the greats, the empowering Luke Kelly, The Dubliners, Liam Clancy, Tommy Makem and Finbar Furey.
The legendary songs that are at the heart of Irish History! On the night, Kevin is backed by experienced and exceptionally talented Musicians; Brian Hughes, Margaret Brennan, Rob Chanders jnr and Vincent Crowley. What better way to finish off the year that is the 100th year anniversary of the proclamation of Independence than an evening of heartfelt ballads? Tickets are priced €15.
The endearing film 'It’s a Wonderful Life' starring James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore is a true masterpiece in cinema and warms the hearts of all who see it year in, year out since it first hit the screens 70 years ago in 1947.
With two screenings of this wonderful film on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st, what better way to prepare for Christmas than watching something like this on the big screen?
To finish off the Christmas festivities, Hermitage Green return to the Dunamaise stage on Saturday 7th January, due to phenomenal demand!
Formed in 2010 as a result of a spontaneous jam session between friends; 2016 has been Hermitage Greens biggest year yet and there is no sign of the momentous growth for this band slowing!
Hermitage Green have built a dedicated legion of fans across the globe thanks to their captivating and unforgettable live set. Their unique arrangement of instruments includes bodhrán, djembe and dobro, coupled with rhythmic guitar lines and banjo rolls - all sitting on top of a dual percussive backbone and wrapped in powerful four part harmonies. Tickets are priced €20.
Shows to look forward to following the Christmas period will include legends of Irish music and song - The Fureys, who have been entertaining audiences for 29 years on Friday 13th January and Portlaoise Panto Group’s Aladdin from 21st to 28th January 2017.
The Gallery at Dunamaise will also feature its annual Open Exhibition featuring selected artists by guest curators Thierry Rudin and Patricia Hurl of Damer House Gallery from 30th November to 7th January.
Showcasing a great breadth and depth of artistic expression by emerging and established artists, the exhibition will award a month long residency at Laois Arthouse in Stradbally to one of the selected artists.
The gift of the arts makes such a thoughtful and everlasting present. Dunamaise has lots of Christmas gifts on offer this year from personalised and unique gift voucher boxes and chocolate treats to hand-painted prints by students of Caroline Keane.
