Ballyfin poet and Beckett scholar, Arthur Broomfield.
Ballyfin poet and Beckett scholar, Arthur Broomfield will be signing his new book this weekend in Allbooks, Portlaoise.
‘Samuel Beckett The Empty Too: language and philosophy in the works of Samuel Beckett’ has received critical acclaim from Beckett scholars Aoife Lynch and Peter O’Neill, and is sure to be of interest to those who want to develop a greater grasp of Beckett’s approach to literature.
“Beckett fascinates me, and I want to spread my understanding of the works of this revolutionary genius beyond the confines of academia,” said the enthusiastic Laois author.
‘My aim is to make Beckett’s precious works accessible to the general reader, to open them to fresh eyes. I believe that reading them through my insights will wrest them from the control of academia and locate them where they belong – in the hands of the public.’
He will be signing the book on Saturday morning, December 2, at 11am in Allbooks, Portlaoise.
The book would also be an ideal Christmas present for friends at home and abroad. Dr Broomfield was a prize winner in the recent Laois Leaves poetry competition and his poetry collection, Cold Coffee at Emo Court, will also be available on Saturday.
