Members of Laois Youth Theatre in Portlaoise will showcase their talents with performances of plays next week in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

The Laois Youth Theatre Junior Group will present Grimm Fairytales: The Adventures of The Brothers Grimm By John Morton.

The Brothers Grimm, Will and Jacob, are not yet the famous fairytale writers of history. They’re conmen who can’t get a job in any respectable college. What’s more, their attempts to record the folk stories of the countryside are failing miserably. A chance encounter with a fugitive by the name of Cinderella leads them on a quest to find a mythical book of stories that can give its owner great powers.

Performers are Murdo Anton, Shane Fennelly, Briony Heffron Price, Matt Kennedy, Ciaran Mason, Karl Mulligan, Alana Stynes, Jack Spillan, Mariam Slimi- nieto, Sarah Deegan, Aaron Flanagan, Damien Buffy, Eben Fitzsimons Forrester, Michael O'Brien.

The Senior group will present ‘The Black Eyes’, written by Bev Clark, a one act play based upon a popular urban myth that originated in the 20th Century in the USA. The play utilises elements of horror, physical theatre and ensemble work.

Performers are Maya Anton, George Byrne, John Byrne, Cian Broderick, Heather Crean, Kyla Heffron Price, Clodagh Leahy, Niamh Leahy, Rachel McGarry, Aaron Meany, Aideen Boyle, Tomek Tabaka, Isabelle Kelly, Zoey McGrath, Theo Fletcher and Richard Maher.

The plays will be staged on Saturday, May 19, at 4pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

Admission is €8, students €5. Call 057 8663355 or go online at www.dunamaise.ie
