There are only a few days left to get your cape washed and utility belt loaded with batarangs and shark repellent bat spray, before Celtic Con - Ireland’s Midland Comic Convention rolls into town.
The two-day festival of superheroics and comicbook capers at O’Loughlins Hotel in Portlaoise promises twice the geekery, gaming and good old family fun as was evident at last year’s inaugural event.
Organised by Martin Moore of Celtic Comics on Railway Street, Celtic Con is two whole days of fantasy escapism, with computer games, cosplay charades, a rich selection of comicbook classics and toys for kids both big and small.
There's a chance to meet some comic industry legends, including Glenn Fabry, Ryan Brown, Michael Carroll, PJ Holden, Triona Farrell, Philip Barrett, Paul Bolger, and Barry Devlin, to name but a few.
Collectors will find something to stoke their interest in either the Comic Village or The Geek Market, featuring a wealth of classic comics, bespoke art, and a full range of merchandise.
There will also be a Gaming Zone, an Artists Alley, display vehicles, craft stalls, panel discussions, exhibitor and artist expo areas, and an artists showcase.
There’s also a chance to step outside of yourself for the day by taking part in the cosplay competition, where attendees can dress up as their favourite comicbook or fantasy character.
Celtic Con comes to Portlaoise on Saturday and Sunday, June 23/24. A one day pass is €10, a weekend pass is €15, and a family weekend pass is €30.
Tickets are available from Celtic Comics, Railway Street, Portlaoise. For more information see the Celtic Con 2018 Facebook page.
