'Everything about being here in Laois is fantastic - Electric Picnic director

Electric Picnic Festival Director Melvin Benn on site for the 2018 preview.

Laois is firmly the happy home of Electric Picnic, with the festival director giving the county warm praise at the preview of the 2018 event today in Stradbally.

The 15th picnic will welcome 55,000 people to the Laois estate of the Cosby family, and so it shall remain, says Melvin Benn owner of Festival Republic, which is behind many of the best music festivals in the world.

Speaking to the Leinster Express on the Main Stage days ahead of the event, he praised the location, policing and the landowners.

"Stradbally is the home of the picnic and Thomas the landowner is a dream to work with. The site is beautiful, the accessibility to Dublin, and essentially across the country, is fantastic, and ultimately we are always made to feel welcome," Mr Benn said.

He had top praise for Laois Offaly garda division, which directs traffic and retains a presence on the site every year.

"We work so well with the Gardaí locally. I don't know that there's a local force of police anywhere in Europe that gets the picnic the way these guys do here. They live and breathe it, they know it inside out. What to expect, the level of having a good time and crossing the line. They are able to judge that really well," he said.

"Literally everything about being here in Laois is fantastic," Mr Benn said.
