World Rugby Player of the Year Johnny Sexton's boots to be auctioned in Laois

Johnny Sexton celebrates his last gasp drop goal which helped Ireland beat France in the 6 Nations Championship in Paris last February

A pair of rugby boots worn by Irish rugby star Johnny Sexton are being auctioned in Laois to raise funds for a seriously ill girl.

Johnny Sexton was crowned World Rugby Player of the Year at the weekend and these are his lucky boots worn by him when the Irish rugby team won the Grand Slam, the Pro14 and the Champions Cup.

The outhalf was never been beaten when wearing these well-worn rugby boots and there is set to be great interest as the public gears up to outbid each other and to own the boots of the national treasure.

All proceeds from the sale of lot 1267, by Shepherds Auctioneers in Durrow, Co Laois, will go towards the medical treatment of eight-year-old Anna Browne, from Mallow, Co Cork.

Anna's family is trying to raise money to pay for ongoing treatment here and in the USA to help her cerebral palsy. Anna’s illness is restricting her mobility and she requires the use of a wheelchair.

Bidding on Wednesday, November 27 will be in-store in Durrow, online at Sheppards.ie.
