Over a dozen gothic-style paintings by Dunamaise Arts Centre’s artist in residence will be featured in Charleville Castle in Tullamore during Shakefest 2019.
Portlaoise artist Rebecca Deegan was chosen to display her work during the 14th annual Shakefest by event organisers along with French artist and belly-dancing fitness instructor Yasmina Irelande from Bettystown in Meath.
Shakefest is a weekend of excitement and fun which celebrates an assortment of multicultural arts, performances and dances.
This year, performing artists from all around Ireland and many from overseas have been invited to take part in the event which fundraises for restoration works at Charleville Castle.
Various workshops will be available in the castle over the two-day event on different styles of dancing, yoga and textile art.
Some performances are only for adults including the Miss Tribal Belly Dance, Oriental Dance and Performance, Tribal Jazz Fusion and Shivam Yoga however, there will be plenty of entertainment and activities for the entire family to enjoy including face painting, multicultural foods and arts and crafts stalls.
Rebecca Deegan said: “I’m thrilled to be exhibiting my artwork alongside Yasmina Irelande in such a beautiful enchanting castle which at the same time is steeped in dark history. Its stories still live within its walls and can be felt throughout the castle, particularly on Harriet’s staircase.
“Yasmina’s paintings are folkloric, fantastical and look at fairytale style love in a historical setting. My work touches on the darker elements of love within both romantic and platonic relationships, feminine bonds and our relationships with us. We chose the theme of eternal love for this exhibition to tie our work together.
“There are many elements within the paranormal otherworld that reflect our own experiences in this earthly realm and I’m delighted to be showing my works in a location where the veil between both realms is so thin."
Shakefest takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 1 and 2. Shakefest can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
