the Late Lil Kelly

The death took place on Friday January 24 of Lil Kelly (nee Wall) of Mountrath and formerly of Windsor, Coolrain.

Lil was in her ninety third year and was born to Pad Wall and Kathleen Brophy and the family lived in Windsor for many years.

Lil married Jack Kelly from Graignamanagh, County Kilkenny who was employed with the ESB.

The couple reared three children, two girls and one boy.

Lil enjoyed great health all her life but was ill over the last few weeks.

She reposed at her residence until removal to St Fintan’s Church, Mountrath for Requiem Mass celebrated by Rev Fr Joe Brophy on Sunday morning.

The burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Chief mourners are her husband Jack, a keen hurler who helped Borris-in-Ossory win their first senior championship in 1956, her daughters Rita Fitzpatrick, Portlaoise and Paula McCann, Castletowngeoghan and son Fintan, Castletown, sons-in-law Frank and Mick, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and many great friends and neighbours in Camross, Castletown and Mountrath.

CAmross GAA

Camross GAA Club congratulate Molly Donnery who won the Leinster Final for Solo Singing at Scor na nOg recently. Molly will now represent Camross Gaa Club, Laois and Leinster in the All Ireland Finals in Castlebar on March 1st.

Camross GAA Club thank everyone that donated towards our Monster Auction which was held in Derrynaseera on Sunday February 26th past. We appreciate the crowd that turned out to purchase on the day and know that most went home with bargains. The weight of the Sheep was 38.2kg and the winners of the Hamper and Voucher were Kyle Moore and Cathal Cuddy.

Camross GAA Club are delighted to announce that we will be hosting Laois Senior Scor on Saturday 22nd February in the Parish Hall. More details to follow.


Laois senior scór competitions take place in Camross on Saturday 22 February. Registration at 7.30 pm and competitions start at 8 pm. Competitions include figure dancing, solo singing, recitation, instrumental music, novelty act, ballad group, set dancing and senior quiz.
