The Errill GAA jackpot was not won last week. There were two match three winners: Nellie Bergin, Coolowley and Catherine Whelan, Rathdowney. The numbers drawn were 1-12-18 and 22. The jackpot on April 14 will be €3,150. Tickets for draw available in Post Office, Dowlings Bar, Ray’s Bar and from local promoters.


After nearly four decades of service, Rathdowney has bid farewell Archdeacon John Murray and his wife Irene. On Sunday, April 6 at St Andrew’s Church of Ireland in Rathdowney a cross-community service of thanksgiving for the Ministry of Archdeacon Murray which was celebrated by the retiring archdeacon.

The service was attended by members of the Church of Ireland as well many local people. There were refreshments in the parochial hall which drew many from far and wide to thank the Murray’s for their service and ministry over the years. The event was preceded by two other ocasions of celebration. A unique ecumenical celebration took place in Rathdowney on Saturday. March 15 when the Roman Catholic community acknowledged their contribution to local life and christian values.

Paying tribute, Fr Martin Delaney, PP, said John and Irene have served their Church of Ireland parish but have also been active in community life for the past 37 years. There was also a parish presentation to Archdeacon in the parochial hall last Friday, April 4. Full report - page 67.
