Good Friday Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion: Parish Church - 4pm & 7.30pm; The Heath & Ratheniska 8pm. Stations of the Cross Outdoor Stations from 2pm at the top of O’Moore Plc and ending at the Parish Church. St Fintan’s Stations 3pm.

Parish Church Prayer around the Cross at 9pm. Church open until midnight.

Easter Sunday: Dawn Mass 6am outdoors in the Heath. Masses also at all Portlaoise Parish churches at usual times.

Church of Ireland: Palm Sunday 10.45am at St Peter’s Portlaoise only (no services at Rock or Ballyfin).

Coder Dojo

An open evening to register at Portlaoise Coder Dojo takes place on Wednesday April 15 at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel at 7pm for children and teenagers who want to learn computer programming. Nutrition Course for anyone affected with a cancer diagnosis commences Monday, April 28 at 11am for 4 weeks.

Youth Cafe

Is your child bored? if they are between the ages of 10-12 yrs, why not drop them down to the Portlaoise Youth Cafe (over Subway) only €1 entry on a Thursday evenings 4- 6pm or Saturday 3-5pm They can make new friends, play pool, air hockey and many fun games. Staff & volunteers are fully trained in Child Protection and are Garda vetted.


The Portlaoise church gate collection in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association takes place on the weekend of April 19/20. Please support.

Coffee for fatima

Parish Novena

The Novena in SS Peter & Paul’s Church continues on Wednesday, April 16 when Sr Briege will speak on the topic of miracles. Portlaoise Parish Youth group will be providing tea and scones afterwards to raise money for the Camino Youth Pilgrimage.

LOURDES Pilgrimage

A box will be placed in the Parish Centre from April 1-30 for names for sponsorship on the 2014 Portlaoise Lourdes Pilgrimage July 14-18. Applicants to include name address contact details and reason for application. If for medical reasons include doctors letter. Seats still available for other pilgrims €725 pp all in. ‘Work4You’ set up by Acquired Brain Injury Ireland provides a free vocational assessment service for individuals who have an acquired brain injury and would like assistance and guidance in returning to work, training or education. It is free to anyone with an acquired brain injury and in receipt of a payment from the Dept. of Social Protection. Active Age

Singing rehearsals with Nuala Kelly for 10th Anniversary concert on April 23 open to each member. Come along each Wednesday 2-3pm sharp and ‘Air your vocals’! Usual meeting follows every Wednesday between 3-5 pm at the Parish Centre and will include a wide variety of activities and events. (The more you join in the fun the more you get out of it). Indoor Bowls every Monday at St Mary’s Hall 3-5 pm.

Divine Mercy Sunday in Portlaoise Parish church Sunday, April 27. Cermonies commence with Confessions at 2.15pm Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3pm followed by Mass Celebrant Bishop Denis Nulty

Famine Film

Portlaoise College’s TY class present documentary The Forgotten Famine People of Queens County 1845-50 that tells the story of the famine in Laois. The film will be screened on May 7 at 8pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre €5 entry.

Run for Wheelchair associaton

The Laois Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association invites women to run for the charity in the upcoming mini-marathon. The branch will register you and provide a meal on the way home. Call Maura 086 3344722, Eugene 087 253 5924 or any committee member.

Late John O’REILLY

Condolences to the family of the late John O’Reilly of 38 Marian Ave, Portlaoise who died on April 5. Beloved husband of Mary and much loved father of Anna, Lillie, Mary, John, Colm and Anthony also deeply regretted extended family, relatives and friends. Reposing at his home. Removal to Ss Peter & Paul’s Church for Requiem mass. Interment afterwards in Ss Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
