The Rock GAA is holding a monster auction on Sunday November 23 at 1pm in the clubhouse. The club needs items to auction such as household and farming items, furniture (good condition), working electrical goods, fuel, fuel vouchers, bric-a-brac, gift vouchers etc. All items must be sold on the day so there’ll be bargains aplenty. Mountmellick WW1 Research and Commemoration Group are screening a DVD of their highly successful WW1 Commemoration Concert ‘Saluting the Brave’ in The Balcony Theatre on Thursday November 13 at 8pm. Admission is €5 and the DVD will be available for sale on the night. Concert goers will be entitled to a discount on the full price of the DVD. The concert is a collection of WW1 themed music, dance and drama, performed by Emer Dunne and Drua and featuring local artists.

Science week

This year’s Science Week takes place from November 9 to 16. The Silence of the Tenrecs, a unique opportunity to learn about the science of wildlife research and conservation takes place at noon on Wednesday November 12 in the Mountmellick Library. The Heritage Office of Laois County Council will deliver free science workshops to primary schools in Mountmellick.

Soccer club Strictly Come Dancing

Mountmellick United Soccer Club will host Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday February 14 in the Heritage Hotel at 8pm. MC Frank Forde.

Sponsorship cards for dancers are available now.

All of the dancers will represent various groups/clubs/organisations and are selling tickets at €20 each to raise funds for the Soccer Club. Dance rehearsals start this week.

Mountmellick Community Arts Centre host this year’s GAA annual Scór na nÓg competition on Friday, November 14 from 7pm. Registration from 6pm. Open to all GAA members aged 17 and under.
