The Parish Mission in Borris-in-Ossory concluded on Saturday November 8. The Mission, which was conducted by the Redemptorists Father Denis Luddy C.SsR and Father John Hanna C.SsR. was a great success with large congregations every morning and evening. Thanks to all who attended and participated in the mission. It was a very uplifting week and it is hoped that everyone benefited from the experience.
The last meeting of Borris-in-Ossory ICA Guild took place in St Canice’s Hall on Wednesday night November 6, presided over by Helen Browne. A vote of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Maura Lowry, Timahoe who was a former Laois Federation President. Votes of sympathy were also passed with the families of the late Michael Murphy, Castle Avenue, Borris-in-Ossory and the late Mrs Teresa Ryan, Castle Avenue, Borris-in-Ossory. Good wishes were extended to Betty O’Brien who is recovering after recent surgery.
Members were informed about the forthcoming Federation meeting to be held in Knockaroo Community Centre on Sunday November 30 and also the Art and Craft Day which will take place in Castletown on Saturday November 29.
Arrangements were made for the guild to hold a Christmas Fair/ Bring and Buy sale in St Canice’s Hall on Saturday evening December 6 after the evening Mass.
The competition for the nicest hand made Christmas decoration was won by Helen Kavanagh, 2nd Mary Teehan, 3rd Noreen Whelan and the raffle winners were Pat Kelly and Stella Kealy.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday December 3 and this will be the Christmas party night. Members are welcome to bring along a friend .
Members of Borris in Ossory ICA filled shoeboxes for the Team Hope Christmas Children’s Shoebox Appeal in St Canice’s Hall on Thursday November 6. A total of 167 boxes were filled with toys, clothing items, sweets etc. The ICA members would like to thank most sincerely all those who generously donated money and goods for the shoe boxes.
The November and December meetings of the Gardening group are all about preparing for Christmas so why not come along to the next get-together which will be held on Thursday November 13 at 8.00pm in St. Canices Hall. There will be demonstrations on how to make wreaths and swags so come along and join the fun. Everyone is more than welcome.
St Joseph’s Primary School, Borris-in-Ossory is trying to gather information on children who have been diagnosed with Autism with a view to the School applying for an A.S.D Unit. If you are aware of families in the surrounding area or have children yourself with this condition you can contact the School for further information. Sympathy is extended to Mr. Ned Walsh and family, Garryduff, Errill on the death of his brother, the late Austin Walsh, Mountrath and Abbeyleix. His burial took place in Killasmeestia Cemetery on Tuesday November 4 after Requiem Mass in the Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix. He is was a loving husband to Mary and loving dad to Margaret, Emma and Gus. Sadly missed by Susan and Howard, brothers Ned, Liam, Michael, Cyril and Raymond, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, extended family and friends.
Sympathy is also extended to Mrs Irene Delaney, Skeirke, Borris-in-Ossory on the death of her brother, the late Fr. Roger Rafter S.C.A. Pallottine Fathers, Thurles, Tipperary and late of Clonmeen, Errill. His remains reposed at the Pallottine College, Thurles until removal to the Community Chapel for Funeral Mass on Wednesday, 5th November. Burial took place in the Pallottine Community Cemetery, Cabra, Thurles. The late Fr. Roger is deeply regretted by his brother Jim, sisters Irene and Sheila, extended family, friends and the Pallottine Community.
