Laois volunteers who will be raising vital funds for cancer care on Daffodil Day have shown their support for the Irish Cancer Society's big annual fundraiser.
The Irish Cancer Society said Daffodil Day Supporter’s Launch was an opportunity for Daffodil Day volunteers to meet and come together, to share advice for the day as well as hear what is new and planned for Daffodil Day 2023. The event is also a day to thank volunteers for their ongoing dedication and support.
Laois volunteers Mary Donoher and Claire Hartnett from Mountmellick were at the event in Croke Park on January where thye met Father Ted star and launch host, Pauline McLynn, and Irish Cancer Society CEO Averil Power.
The society explained the importance of the day to its work.
"The Irish Cancer Society typically receives only 3% of its income from the Government, so it’s thanks to the generosity of their wonderful donors, fundraisers and volunteers that they are able to provide services and support to ensure nobody in Ireland has to face cancer alone. These generous donations fund cancer research and support services for people affected by cancer, throughout Ireland.
"The funds raised by the many supporters across the country helped deliver free information, support and care to people affected by cancer across Ireland last year.
"Communities across Ireland will once again turn daffodil yellow as they take to the streets to raise funds and give hope to cancer patients and their families.
"Take part and take back, so that one day cancer can take no more," says the appeal.
