Portlaoise Pantomime Group will present their 31 have announced that the annual Production Mother Goose in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise from January 24-31. As in previous years with their reputation for hugely entertaining productions of song, dance, comedy and laughter for all ages this year should be no exception. St Patricks Day call

Volunteers and committee members urgently needed for the 2015 St Patrick’s Day parade. Committee meetings will be every Wednesday at 6:15pm in DeBruns pub - subject to change depending on availability of committee members. Hoping to have the parade same time as last year at 12:30pm right after the Streets of Portlaoise 5K. New committee as follows: Chairperson - Monica Delaney, Secretary - Dom Dunne, Treasurer - Theresa Whelan, PRO - Ger Whelan.


This year’s Portlaoise Parish Annual Novena will follow a more intense experience over nine days beginning on February 28 concluding on Sunday March 8th. The Novena will be celebrated at following Masses every day. Guest Celebrants and Speakers will lead each day of Novena.

Library Events

“Irish Wildlife Trust Laois-Offaly Branch will host a talk by Kildare Animal Foundation Wildlife Rescue Unit at 6:45pm on Wednesday, January 28 in Portlaoise Library. Please come along to hear about their great work rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured wild animals. Event is free but donations to Kildare Animal Foundation Wildlife Rescue Unit are very welcome.

‘Encouraging Dyslexic Children to Read for Pleasure’, talk by Harriet Doig from Dyslexia Association of Ireland, Thursday, January 29 at 7.30pm, booking recommended. Ph 8622333. Computer classes start in in early 2015.

The Macra hall on the Timahoe Rd is available for use for community groups and classes. Includes stage and also small meeting room. Central location with ample parking. Enquires to Ann Maire 086 3253100.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas Tree recycling is free for the month of January at Kyletalesha Landfill Site. Please remove all lights and decorations. The Landfill is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 3.30pm and Saturdays from 8am to 1 pm Closed Sundays / Bank Holidays.

Guide Dogs thanks

Laois Guide Dogs wishes to thank the people of Portlaoise for the generous response to the Church Gate collection when €1,800 was raised Thanks also to the volunteers who helped with the collection. There are not six working dogs and four companion dogs for autism in Laois.

Scoil Mhuire

The parents council of Scoil Mhuire are delighted to be chose to participate in the blue coin tube filling event in Tesco Portlaoise which will help raise funds for the school.

Coffee morning and bake sale takes place in the Parish Centre after 10am Mass on Friday, February 6 organised by Scoil Mhuire Parents council. Proceeds towards the school.


Protest on Saturday, January 31 commencing at 2pm at Laois County Hall.


Portlaoise Youth Cafe and the Dunamaise Arts Centre are showing We are the Best in the theatre on Saturday, February 7 at 12 noon. €5 entry.

Cuisle Cancer Support Centre in conjunction with the Irish Cancer Society is running a programme supporting people with secondary cancer course starting Monday, January 26 from 3 – 5pm.

Late Margaret O’SHEA

Condolences to the family of the late Margaret O’Shea Rathmoyle, Abbeyleix and late of Marion Avenue, Portlaoise. Wife of the late John, deeply regretted by her loving daughters Anne, Agnes and Margaret, sisters Kitty and Ann, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at the residence of her daughter Anne, in Abbeyleix from 2pm. Removal to the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix for Reqiuem Mass. Interment afterwards in St.Peters and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.
