The Portarlington Lions Club is sending out a big appeal to Laois and Offaly for tractor heads to sign up for their upcoming fundraiser that will help local people.

The Lions says its Tractor Run is a vital fundraiser to help them support people in the community. The Clubs helps people experiencing hard times for differant reasons in all sorts of ways to keep afloat.

The work they do is particularly important as cost of living as rocketed in recent times.

The also know that people like to have fund and tractor owners love a good old tractor run and with that in mind they've organised an event for  Sunday, March 5.

The Lions say registration gets underway from 10.30 am at the Railway Station car-park ahead of a 12 noon departure.

There'll be complimentary refreshments and Auction immediately afterwards in the Railway Bar.  Particpants will also be in with a chance of winning prizes for the Best Modern Tractor and Best pre-1980's Tractor.

For more info contact: Gerry @ 086 3584611 or Brendan @ 086 4415219. Only qualified drivers to take part.

The route is: Station Road - Main Street - Mountmellick Road. Right at Golf Links - Left at Garryhinch Cross - Left at Commons - Left at Kennels Cross - Right at Blackhall Bridge.

If you can't help the club through the tractor run, maybe you can assist by donating some of your unwanted Christmas gifts by regifting them to Portarlington Lions Club.

Hand lotions, aftershaves, scarves, gloves, slippers, sweets, puzzles or small toys are only an example.

"Your donated unused and unopened gifts will be used in hampers we'll raffle over the coming months to raise much-needed funds to use helping others," says the appeal.

The collection point for new unused gifts is in Whelan’s Electrical Main St, and your generosity will be greatly appreciated!

The Portarlington Lions Club members say they are funded entirely from collections in the Laois Offaly town. They say 100% of funds raised goes back into our community!
