A most enjoyable night’s entertainment was held in Racket Hall Hotel, Roscrea, on Friday night, May 29, to honour the recent retirement of Dr Seamus Fitzgerald as local medical doctor and his wife, Noreen, as practice nurse.

Sal Cuddy, a member of the organising committee, acted as an entertaining M.C. on the night. Jim Kelly gave a very moving synopsis of the Fitzgerald’s lives before and since coming to Borris in Ossory in the early 1980’s. Presentations were made of a painting by local artist, Billy Dollard, Travel Vouchers and Restaurant Vouchers, on behalf of the Residents of Borris in Ossory area by Finty Kealy, Liz Moore, Elizabeth Kilmartin and Edmund Sheeran. Bouquets of flowers were presented to Noreen and also to Elizabeth Kilmartin, who acted as secretary to the Fitzgeralds since their arrival in the area.

Refreshments were served and music and dancing was provided by local artists, Jimmy Quinlan and Noel Sheridan and their band. A highlight of the evening was the music and singing by Noel and Derek Dooley, next door neighbours of the FitzGerald’s for many years. They sang songs from their C.D. “The Dooley Bros”, which had just been released the previous day. Other performers on the night included Fr. Jackie Robinson and Eanna Sheeran.

Other members of the organising committee present included Sr. Regina, who supplied the Cake, Paul Hogan, Maura Gray, Noel Moore and Canice Sheeran. There were apologies from Marie and Agnes Geoghegan who been involved in all the preparations.
