Big Laois effort to help Turkey earthquake victims

Laois people are being urged to support an emergency collection to send vital supplies to the victims of the earthquake in Turkey.
Portarlington resident Aybike Ozbay Mc Donough is the driving force behind the initiative which is being supported actively by local people in the town and surrounding areas.
As part of an appeal driven by the Turkish Embassy with the support of Turkish airlines, winter clothes, bedding, nonperishable food, hygiene and baby products are being requested for donation so that they can be sent to thousands of victims of the disaster. FULL LIST AT END OF STORY.
All donations will be delivered to earthquake victims in disaster regions through the Turkish Redcross /Türk Kızılay International.
People are asked to note the following.
• It is requested that all donations are properly boxed.
• Unworn items, SUITABLE FOR WINTER CONDITIONS, are requested.
• We are NOT accepting cash donations.
• On one side of the box, please detail the contents on A4 paper.
• On the opposite side, please write: “Recipient: Turkish Red Crescent / Kızılay Türkiye”
Aybike says the plan is to fill a van with donated goods on Sunday morning, February 12, and deliver them to the Turkish Embassy which will send them on to the people in need.
People can drop donations to The Railway Bar, Portarlington on Saturday, February 11 from 10am to 7pm. Items can be droped on Sunday to the Peoples Park Portarlington across from the pharmacy on Sunday morning 10am. Donations can also be made at the Gala shop Killenard on Sunday at 11 am.
