A lot of food waste is compostable
Laois County Council is backing a range of events to help people reduce their waste as part of the he second year of the National Food Waste Recycling Week awareness campaign which runs over the coming days week.
Laois County Council will be hosting a number of events around the county where the public will receive a food waste caddy each with a starter pack of caddy liners as well as free compost for their gardens (pending availability) together with an information leaflet on how to recycle food waste at home.
The dates and venues are as follows:
- June 6 Portlaoise Library 4pm
- June 7 Stradbally Libray at 3:30 pm
- June 7 Portarlington Library 6pm
- June 8 Mountrath Library 3.30 pm
- June 8 Abbeyleix Library 6pm
- June 9 Mountmellick Library 12 noon
June 9 Rathdowney Library 4pm
The overall aim of the campaign is to generate awareness of the role of food waste recycling in diverting this valuable resource from landfill and allowing it to be transformed into renewable energy and fertilisers for horticulture and agriculture use in Ireland.
