Established in 2008, the Fisherstown Tractor and Truck Run first began by local men aiming to raise funds for a local cancer charity. 15 years on, the run is a huge success. Since its launch, the run has raised just over €200,000 for various cancer charities.
The first year saw €1,100 being raised for the Irish Cancer Society.
Based at the Final Furlong Ballybrittas, the run has become a great family day out, with plenty of entertainment for all to enjoy, while raising money for such a great cause.
Fisherstown Tractor and Truck Run is a community-driven event, with massive support from local people, companies and organizations.
This year around 50 prizes were up for grabs in the raffle, with another roughly 15 items being up for auction on the day, ranging from a trailer full of sticks, to a Honda 70 motorbike. All of these prizes were donated by members of the community, who wished to contribute to such a great cause.
The organisers say it's the generosity of people through donations that drives the success.
"The run would not be what it is without the dedicated, hardworking committee, who complete so much work on the day, and months before it. The committee is made up of both men and women, some as young as teenagers, who all have the same aim, of raising as much money as possible for charity.
"The work for the run begins months before, when the charity for whom the funds are being raised is chosen. Meetings are held every few weeks to enable every committee member to introduce new ideas, and to organize what has to be done in preparation for the big day. Each committee member plays a valuable role in the organization of the run, from looking for donations and sponsorship, to dedicating their time to organizing food, entertainment or other facilities for the day.
"Fisherstown Tractor and Truck Run would like to thank each and every person who has supported the run and donated to thecharity. The kindness and generosity of people never fails to amaze us year in and year out! Each year is getting bigger and better, and with that means every cheque to a charity is greater, meaning more people are receiving the help and treatment that they need. We look forward to seeing you all at our run in 2024.
"Thank you," they concluded.
