Meals on Wheels preparation
Stadbally meals on wheels is making an appeal for volunteer which as arisen due to the boom in employment.
Originally started by the late Sr Bernadette when she cooked and delivered a dinner to an elderly blind man in 1973, it has since cooked and delivered over 250,000 meals to all areas of our and neighbouring parishes over the last 50 years.
Originally meals were cooked by Sr Bernadette and her voluntary helpers and eventually cooking was taken over by our local Community Employment Scheme (CES).
The Committee outlined the current situation in an appeal to the public the help.
“Unfortunately, with near full employment, the CE Scheme is finding it very difficult to recruit additional helpers leaving us in urgent need of seeking voluntary helpers once again. It would be very helpful in continuing to keep this service to the elderly if you could volunteer to help for about 3 hours once a week or once a fortnight in our kitchen. We also need extra volunteer drivers to deliver meals,” they say.
