Three groups in line
Three Laois groups are in line to get a €10,000 boost to support their projects thanks to the People First Credit Union.
The 'Community Champions Award' will see €10,000 award for one volunteer group. People First says it is aimed at recognising and supporting the tireless efforts of local volunteers within its common bond area of Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Athy, Stradbally and surrounding areas.
The finalists are the Abbeyleix Bog Project, Portlaoise Tidy Towns, and Dunamaise Beekeepers.
People First, which is headquartered in Portlaoise, thanked all the local community groups and projects that applied for the award.
"Your dedication to making a positive impact in our community is truly inspiring. Unfortunately, we could not pick everyone and after much deliberation, we have narrowed our finalists down to three community groups," they said.
The award was launched during the prestigious Laois Community & Voluntary Awards ceremony held on November 3 where the spirit of community service and dedication was celebrated.
People First Credit Union thanked Laois County Council, Laois Public Participation Network and their voluntary Community Funding Committee for their support with this significant initiative.
The overall winner will be announced at the AGM in January 2024.
