Laois Volunteer Centre is appealing for volunteers to come on board as the Portlaoise Meals on Wheels is currently being set up.
More than two dozen elderly people in the Portlaoise area have been without a Meals on Wheels service since last June.
The service, which at one stage provided meals to around 27 people and was the largest in Laois, ceased operating when a temporary provider had to cease operations due to funding constraints. It was seen as a vital service to many users who are unable to cook for themselves.
Now a new service for the county town is being set up. In an online appeal Volunteer Laois said: "Portlaoise Meals on Wheels is currently being set up to provide Meals on Wheels in the Portlaoise area. They are looking for a range of volunteers who are interested in developing this project e.g. committee members, drivers, admin and other general duties."
