The Portlaoise branch of La Leche League was recognised for their Breastfeeding Beyond Infancy Group.
A Portlaoise group has received national recognition for the work they do to support breastfeeding mums in their community.
La Leche League Portlaoise won the 'Support Group of the Year' award at the Friends of Breastfeeding awards in Dunboyne Castle on Saturday, May 11.
The local branch of La Leche League was recognised for their Breastfeeding Beyond Infancy Group.
"This group has shown exceptional dedication to supporting breastfeeding mothers of children 9+ months, with a gentle and compassionate approach that has touched the lives of so many families. There is no other resource in Ireland that provides the support tailored to feeding the older child, as in doing so presents unique challenges. They provide breastfeeding answers to breastfeeding problems, and not just 'well it's time to wean'," said Friends of Breastfeeding.
The group's leaders Heather, Jenna and Emer gratefully accepted the award, with fellow Leaders and Group attendees (and their little ones) cheering them on. CONTINUE READING BELOW PHOTO
" A big “Thank You” goes to Friends of Breastfeeding for organising such a wonderful celebration of breastfeeding in Ireland and also the mothers who attend our Nursing Beyond Infancy group who nominated LLL Portlaoise for this award," said La Leche League of Ireland.
"Keep up the wonderful work you do! We really appreciate it!"
The La Leche League of Ireland is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting mothers who want to breastfeed or provide their infants with human milk.
La Leche League Portlaoise's main meeting is the first Tuesday each month in Treo Nua Portlaoise Resource Centre. The group also runs a Coffee Morning on the third Tuesday most months, does one-to-one phone help and provides researched information on breastfeeding.
