New Credit Union Loan for Laois Community Groups

The new loan product is aimed to support community groups dedicated to Sports, Recreation, Culture, Health, the environment, Heritage and the arts.

People First Credit Union have launched their new Community Loan, which offers amounts of up to €200,000 over 35 years. The credit union has collaborated with Community Finance Ireland to finance large scale funding projects.

The new loan product is aimed to support community groups dedicated to Sports, Recreation, Culture, Health, the environment, Heritage and the arts.

People First Credit Union have said that their loan is 'designed specifically for community groups and will help make their
expansion plans become reality.' 

Speaking about the loan, Sean Dunne, CEO, People First Credit Union, said;
“A lot of groups may struggle to fundraise locally and through the provision of community finance, we can assist their projects come to fruition. People First are delighted to announce we can fund larger scale projects through the collaboration of Community Finance Ireland."

"The credit union will consider projects from all sectors including sports groups, arts, youth activities, social enterprises and community groups. Groups, clubs and societies are all eligible to open savings accounts in the credit union which can be also used for fundraising/saving activities."

"While we are cognisant that there are other social finance partners available to community groups. We would like them to consider a local lender such as their Credit Union as we are embedded in the local community and committed to support projects that support the socio- economic well-being of people living and working across Laois and Athy”.


The Community Loan rate is fixed and competitive at 6.75% (APR).
