Numbers on Laois live register increases to 3,324

The number of people signing on the live register in Laois rose slightly last month to 3,324.


That figure is up 2% from 3,261 in May, however it is down from 3,361 in comparison to June 2023. 
The Social Welfare Office with the highest numbers signing on was Portlaoise at 1,619, followed by Portarlington - 1,265 and Rathdowney - 440.


There were more men than women signing on in Laois last month, 1789 males compared to 1535 females. The majority (2,876) were over the age of 25 with 448 people under 25 on the live register.


Nationally the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for June 2024 was 171,500 people, down by 1,300 people or 0.8% from May 2024.


Meath was the only county that recorded an increase in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to June 2024, up 4.5%.
