Preparations continue apace for the Ballyroan Goes to Hollywood fundraiser with the groups involved setting to the task of raising funds for the process which culminates in November.
The Ballyroan Community Development Association are running fundraisers over the coming months to help develop a playground and recreational facilities at the old boys' school. One is Ballyroan Goes to Hollywood which consists of over 100 willing volunteers participating in seven films edited down to 10 mins and shown at an event in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel this November. The Snapper cast has organised a fundraising movie night screening of The Snapper in Whelan's Lounge on Saturday, August 31 at 9pm. Entry €5.
The Bridesmaids group are hosting a tractor run on Sunday, September 1. €20 per vehicle. Register from noon at Community Hall. Run from 2pm. There will be a kids' tractor run at 2.30 pm. Refreshments raffle afterwards.
The Bridesmaids are also hosting a clinic with Oxley Injury Clinic on Saturday, September 14 at the Oxley Clinic in Timahoe. The cost is €30 for 30 minutes. Contact Brian Oxley for details.
The cast of Sister Act is organising a sponsored Nuns on the Run walk on Sunday, September 8 at 10.30am dressed as nuns. The route is the 7km Slí na Sláinte route departing from Chapel St.
Wax and Relax is being organised by the 'A Few Good Men Edition' on Saturday, September 14 in Scully's Ballyroan. The night features live music with MJ and Dinny. Admission is €5 to night which also features a wax raffle.
The One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest team is holding a table quiz on Saturday, October 12 in Whelan's Pub Ballyroan. Doors open at 8pm.
All are invited to book tickets for the fundraiser on November 23 at Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. The group hope to raise €150,000 to continue the development.
