"MTT is seeking the help from our local community to stop the vandalism to trees in our beautiful Mountrath Amenity Area that is so well maintained by Mountrath Amalgamated Cep Clg.  Over the last few days a series of semi mature native Irish trees planted only 3 years across from the Health Centre and in the woodland area behind the playground have been sawn down for no apparent reason," the group said in a Facebook post.

"We are asking that if anyone witnessed the incidents or has any information please contact Mountrath Garda Station in confidence."
