IN PICTURES: Laois community throws great party for senior citizens

The annual Senior Citizens Party, organized by Borris in Ossory Social Services, took place in the PE Hall at St. Joseph’s National School, Borris in Ossory on Sunday February 23. Kay Dowling, Social Services Chairperson extended a warm welcome to all the guests. Catering was by Eddie Phelan and his staff from Phelan's Restaurant and Catering Service,  Mountrath. 
Musical entertainment was supplied by Martin Delaney who also acted as M.C. for the day. The cake was cut by Stella Kealy, Nan O’Brien and Rosie Kealy, the three senior members of the Social Services committee.              
The guests were treated to some lovely singing by Fiachra Dooley, accompanied by his father Derek. Fiachra is a talented young singer and musician who was featured on the Late Late Toy Show in 2023. 
Also there to entertain the guests were traditional musicians Laura Scott, Tadhg Dalton and Fionnan Dalton and also a fantastic performance from Irish dancer Clara Drennan, daughter of Paul and Paula Drennan. Clara is a pupil of the Lynam School of dancing.        
At the end of the evening Kay thanked Eddie and staff for the beautiful meal. She thanked all the local shops and many individuals who sponsored prizes for the raffle, she also paid tribute to Martin Delaney and all the entertainers and thanked all the Social Services committee members who worked hard to make the day so successful.
