The community of Ballinakill have been having their say on how they would like their village to develop into the future and top of the agenda is tackling derelict buildings and the need for more facilities.

A public consultation has been underway on 'A Vision for Ballinakill' after the Ballinakill Community Development Association secured funding from EirGrid Community Benefit Fund to complete work to help guide the future of the Laois village with some professional assistance. Paul Hogarth Company have been facilitating the discussion and collating the information.

Graphics on the outcome of stage one of this consultation are now available and will be on view in the Market Square for the next couple of weeks.

The initial feedback shows the public are keen for the revitalisation of derelict buildings, new businesses and amenities, enhancing recreational facilities, community events and spaces, improvement of roads and traffic, green spaces, and tourism.
Asked what they liked about Ballinakill the respondents said it is a peaceful and quiet setting, natural beauty and walks, amenities and facilities and community spirit.

When asked what they disliked the majority raised issues such as derelict buildings, lack of facilities, and speed of traffic.
A large proportion of the respondents, 62.1% were aged between 35-54.
