Laois Offaly Gardaí have bid farewell to another long serving local Garda Sergeant.

Gardaí extended their best wishes to Sgt Carlo Griffin on his retirement. He was based in Birr, Co Offaly but had previously served in Portlaoise.

“This week we bid farewell to Sergeant Carlo Griffin, who retires from An Garda Síochána after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

Carlo served in a number of key postings during his career, including Harcourt Terrace, Garda Headquarters, Templemore, Portlaoise, Edenderry, and most recently Birr. In each, he brought a calm, steady approach and was a valued colleague to many.

Standing at 6ft 7, Carlo was never one to go unnoticed — but it was his sharp Limerick wit, quiet decency, and willingness to help others that truly made him stand out. A long-time supporter of the International Police Association, he gave his time generously, often behind the scenes, offering advice or support to fellow Gardaí.

His presence will be missed — on the corridors, at briefings, and on the job — and we wish him good health, happiness, and plenty of well-earned relaxation in the years ahead.

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat, Carlo,” Gardaí said in a post on social media.

Sgt Griffin is the second experienced Garda Sergeant to receive best wishes on their retirement from the Laois Offaly Garda Division in two days.

His announcement was made just a day after the retirement of Garda Sgt PJ O’Brien, who was in charge of Arles, Stradbally and Ballylinan.
