Portlaoise First Responder CPR training.
Laois people who want to learn how to use skills that could help save a life are invited to a heart saver course in Portlaoise this month.
The Portlaoise First Responders, a registered charity, is running the Irish Heart Foundation’s Heartsaver course in Portlaoise Library. The group say it is ideal for for anyone who wants to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The community course takes about three hours to complete and teaches the basic techniques of CPR and how to use an AED and the relief of choking for adults and children.
The AED course follows a practice-while-watching video format and is led by instructors who will provide feedback, guide you through the lessons, and help improve your CPR technique as you practice on a manikin.
Participants who can demonstrate high-quality CPR at the end of the course will receive an IHF/AHA Heartsaver AED course completion card which is valid for two years.

Apart from training, Portlaoise First Responder say their volunteers provide help with cardiac arrests, heart attacks, chest pains, strokes and choking on behalf of the National Ambulance Service.
