Congratulations to Mrs Maura O’Gorman Clonaslee who received the Unsung Hero award at the Laois Community and Voluntary award in Killeshin Hotel Portlaoise last week. Maura is a native of Camross parish and the oldest daughter of the late John and Nellie Ryan, Cappinarrow. Her brothers Lar, John and Liam live in our parish and Thomas lives in Mountrath. Her sister Teresa is also married and living in Camross. Her other sister Anne is married annd living in Mountrath, so they are all home birds. Maura was nominated by Dolores Murray of Clonaslee and all whist drive players know Dolores very well. Matt Basset was also at the awards and he is well known to the whist players as well. Congratulations to one and all. We are very proud of you.
We would also like to send congratulations to Liam O’Neill who was awarded the Leinster Express Laois Person of the Year. Awards are nothing new to Liam and long may it last.
The funeral of the late Jim Fitzpatrick, Lacca, is expected in the parish early this week.

A community alert meeting will take place in the community hall in Camross at 8.30pm on Saturday December 8. A member of the local gardai will be in attendance. All are welcome to come along.
